This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, store, and share your information when you use the aning app and related services. By using aning, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

a. Account and Contact Information

When you create an account or sign in, we collect:

  • Your name and email address (via Sign in with Apple, Google Sign-In, or email/password)
  • A unique user identifier
  • Profile display name you choose

b. User-Created Content

Content you voluntarily create or upload in the app, including:

  • Diary page entries (text, drawings, layout data)
  • Photos and images you upload to journal pages or book covers
  • Book titles, subtitles, and descriptions
  • Category names and settings
  • Theme submissions: Diary pages you voluntarily submit to monthly community themes
  • Social links: URLs for social media profiles (Instagram, Twitter/X, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, personal website) — only if you choose to add them

c. Group and Social Features

When you use shared groups or invitations:

  • Group names and descriptions you create
  • Email addresses of users you invite to groups
  • Your membership status in shared groups

d. Photobook Order Information

If you submit a photobook order inquiry, we collect:

  • Your name and email address as entered in the order form
  • Any notes or requests you provide

e. App Preferences and Settings

We store your in-app preferences including:

  • Selected language
  • Default editor settings (font, background color, etc.)
  • Onboarding completion status

f. Usage and Analytics Data

We may collect information about how you interact with the app, such as:

  • Features used and navigation behavior
  • General product interaction data

g. Diagnostic Data

To maintain and improve the app, we may collect:

  • Crash reports and error logs
  • App performance data

h. Content Reports and Moderation Data

When you or other users report content (books or theme submissions), we collect:

  • The reported content ID and reason for the report
  • The reporting user's identifier (to prevent duplicate reports)
  • Moderation status and history of the reported content

2. How We Use Your Information

We use collected information to:

  • Create and authenticate your account
  • Store, sync, and display your diary pages, photos, and books
  • Enable shared group features and group invitations
  • Process photobook order inquiries and contact you by email
  • Generate AI-powered content such as monthly reports and captions (using anonymized diary content sent to an AI service)
  • Moderate publicly shared books and theme submissions for inappropriate content (automated AI review)
  • Process and review user reports of inappropriate content
  • Display social media links on your public profile (only if you have added them)
  • Personalize your app experience based on your preferences
  • Diagnose and fix technical issues
  • Improve app performance and reliability

3. AI Features

aning includes AI-powered features such as:

  • AI Monthly Report: Diary entry text may be sent to an AI language model to generate a monthly summary or report. No personally identifiable information beyond your entry content is included.
  • Content Moderation: When you publish a book publicly or submit a page to a theme, its content may be reviewed by an automated AI moderation system to detect inappropriate content.
  • AI Captions: Text content from diary entries may be processed by AI to generate or suggest captions.
  • AI Translation: Content in theme submissions and policy documents may be translated using AI to display in your preferred language.

AI processing is performed via trusted third-party AI service providers. Your content is used only to generate the requested output and is not used to train AI models without your explicit consent.

4. Authentication and Sign-In

aning supports the following sign-in methods:

  • Sign in with Apple: We receive your name, email address (or Apple's private relay address), and a unique identifier from Apple.
  • Google Sign-In: We receive your name, email address, and a unique identifier from Google.
  • Email/Password: We collect and store your email address and a securely hashed password.

5. User-Generated Content and Community Features

a. Theme Submissions

aning offers monthly community themes where you can voluntarily submit your diary pages. When you submit to a theme:

  • Your submission (diary page content, text, and photos) will be visible to other users of the app.
  • Your display name and avatar will be shown alongside your submission.
  • You can remove your submission at any time.
  • Submissions are subject to automated AI content moderation and may be reviewed by administrators if reported.

b. Public Profile and Social Links

You may optionally add social media links to your profile. These links are displayed on your public profile page only if you add them. You can remove or edit them at any time from Account Settings.

c. User Blocking

You can block other users. Blocked users' content (theme submissions, public books) will not be visible to you, and your content will not be visible to them. Block lists are private to each user.

d. Publicly Shared Books

If you choose to make a book public, its title, subtitle, year, and cover image will be visible to other users of the app. Your display name may also be shown alongside public books. You can set any book to private at any time from within the app.

6. How Your Information Is Stored and Protected

Your data is stored on secure cloud infrastructure provided by trusted third-party hosting services. We apply reasonable administrative and technical safeguards to protect your information.

No method of internet transmission or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information.

We may share information in the following limited circumstances:

  • Service providers: Trusted partners who help us operate, host, or maintain the app (e.g., cloud storage, AI APIs, authentication providers)
  • Authentication providers: Apple and Google, as required for sign-in functionality
  • Other users: Content you voluntarily submit to community themes or make public will be visible to other app users
  • Legal requirements: When required by applicable law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request
  • Safety: To protect the rights, safety, or integrity of our users or the app
  • Business transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or transfer of assets

8. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. If you delete your account, your diary pages, photos, books, theme submissions, and personal data will be permanently deleted from our systems. Content reports and moderation logs may be retained for a reasonable period for safety purposes.

9. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • Access or export your personal information
  • Correct inaccurate information
  • Request deletion of your account and associated data
  • Withdraw consent where applicable

10. Children's Privacy

aning is not intended for children under the age of 13 (or the applicable minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal data through the app, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps to remove it.

11. International Data Transfers

aning is operated globally and your data may be stored or processed in countries other than your own. By using the app, you consent to such transfers as permitted by applicable law.

12. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
